As this project comes to a close, I am feeling pretty proud of myself. I have written a full introduction song, learned how to write said song in musical notation, played the song for other people and finally recorded myself playing it! Strangely, I found recording myself playing it the most difficult, im not sure why but it feels all the more daunting being filmed as it feels more final and has less forgiveness. This feeling reminds me of a few years ago, when one of the ways I was making money as a broke university student was busking in Downtown Victoria – and although that sounds extremely terrifying (it was a little) there was something so freeing about there being no record of it. Each person that walked by only heard a small portion of what I was playing, so I could play a verse twice and no one would know any better! With video, it is somewhat permanent, and I think for some reason it makes me so nervous that it affects me playing and singing.
Despite all of this, I still feel like ive improved significantly, as Ive been practicing every week and trying to feel more comfortable not only playing in front of a camera but also changing chords without looking. I will admit that I became quickly bored with playing the same song, especially a song made for 1st graders, so I did attempt to learn a few others after I mastered this one. So, attached below is not only a recording of my song I wrote, but also an audio recording of me playing and singing Linger by the Cranberries!
